Tribune Publishing Appoints Vice President/Circulation

Company names Chicago Tribune's Vincent Casanova to Post

CHICAGO, December 6, 2004  -- Tribune Publishing, a division of Tribune Company (NYSE: TRB), today announced that publishing veteran Vincent (Vince) Casanova has been appointed vice president/circulation, effective immediately. Casanova was previously vice president/circulation and consumer marketing for Chicago Tribune Company.

"This move to a full time group executive role is a natural extension of the leadership Vince has demonstrated coordinating key circulation activities across our newspapers in recent months," said Scott Smith, Tribune Publishing chief operating officer. "In addition, Vince’s expertise in marketing, distribution and solid controls will be a great resource as we continue to develop quality circulation with highly responsive readership."

Casanova will be responsible for guiding the overall circulation marketing, sales, service and distribution strategy for Tribune Publishing, including ensuring the accuracy and integrity of reported circulation results. He will work with each Tribune newspaper to develop and implement initiatives that grow valuable circulation and readership, as well as to improve distribution efficiencies and flexibility.

Casanova will represent Tribune on circulation industry matters. In January, he becomes president of the board of the Newspaper Association of America’s (NAA) Circulation Federation, and also joins the NAA/ABC Liaison committee, as well as continuing on the NAA Postal Affairs Committee.

Casanova has served as vice president/circulation and consumer marketing for Chicago Tribune Company since 1999, responsible for circulation, consumer marketing and sales, service and distribution. He joined Tribune in 1979 and has held a variety of management positions with Tribune Company and Chicago Tribune, including corporate audit director.

Casanova holds a bachelor’s degree from Northern Illinois University and a master’s in business administration from the University of Chicago. He is a CPA and a member of both the Illinois Society and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
