Summertime Travelers Find Chicago's Best Dining and Entertainment on Metromix.com

Award-winning online city guide captures Chicago’s best summer food, music and fun

CHICAGO, May 21, 2003 -- Planning a Windy City visit this summer? Looking for Chicago’s best festivals, theater and restaurants? Let metromix.com be your guide!

Covering everything from museums to music to nightlife to spas, the Chicago Tribune’s metromix.com (http://www.metromix.com) is the essential insider’s resource for visiting Chicago.

Drawing on the expertise of its entertainment savvy producers and a database of more than 20,000 events and 15,000 places, Metromix provides a feast of dining and other entertainment choices. Visitors also can browse reviews from Chicago Tribune movie, music and dining critics, as well as more than 30,000 Reader Review opinions. The site also provides shopping tips, weather, maps and even driving directions.

"Metromix makes it easy to discover the best and most interesting things to do in Chicago," said Leigh Behrens, Metromix editor. "Whether it’s a hot new restaurant in Bucktown, a play that’s opening at Steppenwolf or the Outdoor Film Festival in Grant Park, visitors can find what they need to plan their day, weekend or complete vacation."

Winner of three national awards for excellence, Metromix draws 384,000 unique users monthly, and features more than 9,000 dining listings and 350 restaurant reviews.

Metromix is designed to share content easily with its print partners, Chicago Tribune and RedEye, a weekday commuter edition of Chicago Tribune. A unique print version of Metromix appears daily in RedEye; and on Wednesdays Metromix expands its content in RedEye to a special 24-page pullout containing a wealth of entertainment and dining options for the weekend ahead. The site also has partnered with CLTV, Chicagoland’s 24-hour local cable news channel, to produce "metromix: the tv show."

Metromix recently converted to Tribune Interactive’s proprietary publishing platform called Oxygen. The platform helps Metromix provide easier searching, streamlined navigation and expanded options for advertisers.

Recognized as one of the top city guides by the online publishing industry, metromix.com was awarded the 2002 EPpy Award for Best Entertainment Section by Editor & Publisher magazine. In 2001 and 2002, the site was also honored with Digital Edge Awards by the Newspaper Association of America.
