Tribune Company Names Pat Mullen President
of Broadcasting Group
CHICAGO, January 8, 2003 --
Tribune Company (NYSE:TRB)
today named Patrick Mullen President of Tribune Broadcasting,
overseeing the company’s 24 television stations, its
entertainment division, and radio station WGN-AM in Chicago.
Mullen has served as Tribune Television President since March
2001.
"Pat has provided great leadership for
our television stations," said Dennis FitzSimons, Tribune
president and chief executive officer. "He spearheaded
our pending acquisitions of KPLR-TV in St. Louis and KWBP-TV
in Portland. And since joining Tribune in 1998, Pat has demonstrated
time and again that he has the talent, experience and dedication
that are essential for success in the media industry."
Mullen joined Tribune Television in 1998 as
regional vice president, overseeing the company’s six
Fox affiliated stations. In 1999, Mullen added five WB stations
to his roster, and in March 2001 he became president of Tribune
Television with oversight responsibility for the entire group.

Mullen began his career in 1979 as an account
executive with WGTU-TV/WGTQ-TV, Traverse City, Mich., where
he was promoted to sales manager in 1980. He served as general
sales manager at WKFT-TV, Fayetteville, N.C., in 1982 and
1983 before joining WXMI-TV, Grand Rapids, Mich., as director/sales.
He was named vice president/station manager of WXMI in 1988
and general manager in 1989.
A native of Pentwater, Mich., born July 6,
1955, Mullen attended the University of Michigan, where he
studied speech/communication with a concentration in radio/television.
Mullen currently serves as chairman emeritus of the Fox Affiliates
Board of Governors, is a board member of the Television Bureau
of Advertising (TVB), The Association for Maximum Service
Television (MSTV) and the National Association of Broadcasters
(NAB). He is also is a member of the Quello Center Board of
Advisors at Michigan State University and serves on the board
of trustees of the Davenport College Foundation. Previously
he was the president and founding chairman of the Michigan
Association of Broadcasters Foundation.
